FOURTH AND NEW ORLEANS: Tulane Football's Season of Perseverance (Chris Scelfo, Benjamin Hochman)

FOURTH AND NEW ORLEANS: Tulane Football's Season of Perseverance (Chris Scelfo, Benjamin Hochman)

Description: DESCRIPTION Fourth and New Orleans is the touching, true story of Tulane UniversityÌs 2005 football seasonÛplayed in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Just as their season was due to get underway, New OrleansÌ only college football team was forced by Katrina to relocate several times before settling in the tiny northeast Louisiana town of Ruston for the balance of their season. For four months, the team battled doubt, fear, and uncertainty, playing ÏhomeÓ games on the road while they pondered if New Orleans would ever feel like home again. While each of TulaneÌs players dealt with a distinct sense of loss that season, several of the players native to the New Orleans were hit the hardest as family homes were left uninhabitable and families were scattered across the South. Led by their strong-willed head coach, Chris Scelfo, the team learned the definition of perseverance as they struggled to stoke their competitive fires on the field as their lives remained in disarray off the field. Benjamin Hochman, an award-winning journalist for The Times-Picayune, spent the 2005 Tulane season on the road with the team. ABOUT THE AUTHORS Chris Scelfo served as the head football coach at Tulane University from 1998 to 2006. He coached the Green Wave to victories in two bowl games and developed current NFL stars Patrick Ramsey and J.P. Losman. Chris Scelfo is a New Iberia, Louisiana, native and Louisiana-Monroe graduate. Benjamin Hochman is a journalist working for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans. He spent the 2005 season with the Tulane football team, capturing and documenting the perseverance of the Green Wave players and coaches. Hochman won first place for sports feature writing in 2005 and 2006 from the Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Managing Editors, the Louisiana Sports WritersÌ Association, and the New Orleans Press Club. A graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, Hochman lives in New Orleans. 2007 * 240 pp 6 x 9 inches softcover
