Description: DESCRIPTION Legendary football coach Vince Dooley of the University of Georgia tells his favorite stories from the 1980 season, when the Bulldogs football team won the national championship. Featuring the incomparable Herschel Walker, Georgia went undefeated in 1980, beating Notre Dame, 17-10, in the Sugar Bowl. About the Authors Vince Dooley was head football coach at the University of Georgia from 1964 to 1988, winning 201 games, six Southeastern Conference championships, and the 1980 national championship. He was SEC Coach of the Year seven times and national Coach of the Year in 1980 and 1982. He has been inducted into both the Alabama and Georgia sports halls of fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. He was Athletic Director at the University of Georgia from 1979 to 2004. He and his wife, Barbara, have four children and 11 grandchildren. Dooley resides in Athens, GA. Past titles include Vince DooleyÌs Tales from the 1980 Georgia Bulldogs Ò hardcover (Sports Publishing, 2005), Dooley: My Forty Years at Georgia (Triumph Books, 2005), and DooleyÌs Dawgs: 40 Years of Championship Athletics at the University of Georgia (Longstreet Press, 2003). Blake Giles Giles is a freelance writer who was sports editor of the Athens Banner-Herald from 1971 to 1983. He was with the Athens newspapers from 1969 to 1996, also serving as sportswriter, associate editor, business editor, and managing editor for sports. He was a two-time winner of the Georgia Sports Writers AssociationÌs Sweepstakes Award for best sports story of the year and received numerous awards from The Associated Press and the Georgia Press Association. Giles resides in Athens, GA.
